Attire Guidelines

Attire

Things to note

(a) Guide Uniform

1. Neat and ironed.

à Tip: Bring your uniform in a uniform cover so that you will not need to fold it and stuff it into your bag. (:

2. Blouse must be tucked in at all times, such that the belt buckle is visible.

3. Guide skirt must be knee-length. No longer. No shorter.

à Tip: Kneel down wearing your skirt. The hem of the skirt should touch the ground nicely, this is the right length!

4. Skirt pockets should be empty, so that it will not hinder movement during footdrill.

5. All badges must be sewn and pinned on at the right places on the uniform.

à REMEMBER the World Badge, Trefoil, Bronze/Silver/Gold badge, Thinking Day patch.

6. The scarf must be secured under metal studs sewn to the uniform collar. It should also be tied neatly; the reef knot should form a neat square, and the ends of the scarf should be of equal length.

à Tip: Iron the folds of your scarf at home. You can also tie your scarf and pin on the trefoil beforehand; this saves a lot of time when you put on your uniform!

(b) Hat

1. Ironed and not crumpled.

à Tip: Starch your hat if possible!

2. To be folded and tucked under left epaulette when not worn.

3. Ensure that the hat badge is centralised, and that the elastic band is not visible.

à As batchmates, help to check each others’ hats!

(c) Accessories

1. No jewellery allowed. This includes ear studs and necklaces. Watches must also be taken off before the footdrill session.

2. Long hair (touching the state crest of the scarf) must be tied up neatly in a tight bun (covered with hair net), and loose strands of hair must be pinned up neatly.

3. Short hair is required to be kept in a hair net, and all loose strands of hair must be tucked in neatly using hair pins or a hair band.

4. Hair accessories must be black in colour.

5. All Guides with spectacles are required to use spectacle hooks.

à This prevents your spectacles from slipping during footdrill.

(d) White socks

+ Boots

1. Socks are strictly to be all white.

2. No ankle socks allowed. White socks must be 3 fingers above the ankle bone.

à Do not try to cheat and turn your NY socks inside out. The footdrill commanders know.

3. Boots must be well-polished, such that it is shiny enough to be able to reflect one’s face/teeth on its surface. No liquid polish is allowed.

à Liquid polish will damage your boots over the long run. Use the right polish and cloth, spend time and polish your boots regularly. The end result will be worth your hard work and patience! Also, make sure you polish the entire boot, not just the front. This includes the heel too.

4. Laces must be tied into a double-knot; this prevents it from coming loose during footdrill.

Announcements

For those of you who did not come for CCA last Friday (and for those who need reminders), below are points the CLs raised up during debrief. Do take note of them in the future.

1. Greetings
(i) Before CCA begins, you need to greet the Ma'ams and seniors (if any) when you see them. (You do not have to greet the CLs, ACLs, Sec4s etc., as they will be coming down at different times.)

(ii) At the end of roll call, the entire company will give an official greeting to the Ma'ams, seniors (if any), CLs and ACLs.

(iii) During CCA, when moving from station to station, you are required to greet Ma'ams/seniors (including CLs, ACLs and Sec 4s) present at the station. Greet them as of who they are; in other words, greet Sec 4s as Sec 4s and not i/cs.
Wrong: "Good afternoon I/Cs."
Correct: "Good afternoon Sec 4s."

(iii) Also, take note that you are required to greet before entering rooms such as the Guide room, Guide store or any classrooms used for activities.

(iv) When travelling from station to station, you do not have to greet the Ma'ams and seniors. However, basic courtesy applies. Do smile/nod/bow when you walk past them.

(v) When you're meeting Ma'ams/seniors during lunchtime or after school, you need to greet them as well. Be discerning on how formal the meeting is, if it is really informal, you do not have to greet.

(vi) When we conduct activities in public, greetings are not required, to avoid any disturbance.

(vii) All greetings must be loud, crisp and clear. If the greetings are sloppy, you will be required to greet again.

2. CCA attendance
(i) All Guides need to inform your PLs if you are not attending CCA or will be coming late/leaving early. PLs also need to inform the ACLs of their patrol members' absence ASAP before CCA. This is extremely important, as it affects the programme and running of the CCA session.

(ii) If your activity ends at 5:15pm (or earlier), you are required to be present for the rest of the CCA session. Failure to do so will be considered truancy, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

3. Reminders
(a) Sec 1s are reminded to meet the FCs at the Guide room on Tuesday during lunch to collect your boots.

(b) All Guides are reminded to sign up for Talentime by lunchtime on Monday. The I/Cs will be removing the sign-up sheet after school on Monday.

FREESTYLE'09!

Presenting to you... FREESTYLE'09! An all-new Talentime, which is well, basically a time for you (yeah, you!) to showcase your talents!

When? 29th May 2009, CCA session

Theme? Freestyle
It's up to your creativity on how you wanna interpret the theme! It could be a song, dance, magic show (*cue mysterious music*), an instrumental showcase, a musical, skit... the possibilities are endless!

Who? YOU :D
All of you in NYGG will have to be a part of a performance. Yes, all of you. (: You can choose to perform individually or in groups of 5 to 10 people! Yall are encouraged to mix around and form groups with people you seldom work with, you need not be in your own patrols or batches (; (maybe your quiet friend is actually hiding her beautiful singing voice!!)

What? For individual performances, the time required is around 2 minutes. For group performances, items with singing or dancing would be around 5 minutes, and skits will be around 10 minutes. (We're giving yall the estimated time so that it facilitates planning! :D Try to keep to it, you can also approach the i/cs for any special requests!)
You can also perform any unique or special talent that you've been hiding all this while.. play an instrument or even perform magic! (*cue mysterious music again*). anything! (it must be decent, of course.) Also, you can choose to speak on a topic of interest as an alternative to performing and wow the audience with your oratorical skills :D

Bet you're already bubbling over with excitement and about to pick up your phone to call your batchmates/friends/whoever...
Here's how! You'll need to form groups (individual talents are super duper welcomed too!!) and leave your particulars on the sign-up sheet, which will be put up on the guide board. All sign-ups must be done by 27th April 09, MONDAY. (Co-operate, so that your i/cs can plan and facilitate the event to make it a success :D)

Groups need to email the i/cs, Kakay & Suying, at least two weeks before Talentime'09, a brief description of your performances. You also need to include, in your email, the songs or props required for your performances. Label your CDs with the title of your performance, your group leader and her patrol.
Kakay's email- kong_ka_kay@hotmail.com
Suying's email- mee1301@hotmail.com

STRICTLY,
- No vulgarities or inappropriate content in your performances. (We trust that you will be able to discern what is appropriate and what is not (: )
- No revealing/skimpy costumes (mini skirts, hot pants, spaghetti strap tops, etc) BIG NO NO.

Lastly, do give this competition your best shot! It certainly gives you an experience of a lifetime and who knows? It might change your life forever~ :D Oh yes, there are attractive prizes to be won too! So quickly decide on your performance and sign up! And do look forward to FREESTYLE'09!

TDP'09 Photos

Dear Sec Ones,

as friday is going to be your first time tying your scarf (for non-brownies :D ),
the sec4s have decided to upload some pictures so that you can get an overall idea on how to fold the scarf (:

Step 1:

the crest of your scarf should face down. Iron your scarf.

Step2:

Place 3 fingers above the crest and fold down. Iron again. (there'll be alot of ironing! :] )

Step 3:
Flip the scarf so that the crest will be face up again. Iron the surface so that it'll not be crumpled.

Step 4:

Fold it to half. (Click on the photo to enlarge if you're not very clear :D)
Iron again.

Step 5:
You will have to fold 3 more times so make sure that the space for each fold is around the same.
Iron after every fold.

Step 6:

Tada! It is done (: Iron again to make sure that it is smooth and crease-free (:

There's alot of ironing because the scarf will have a lot of creases on it at first. Therefore, your scarf has to be tidy and ironed so that it will appear neat (:
My scarf has folding lines on them because I've been folding and ironing, folding and ironing for a long period of time already. So its quite easy to fold it and it'll stay in shape :)
It might be quite difficult for the first time, but as time passes, it'll get easier! :D

Those guides who were brownies, please help your fellow batchmates to tie their scarfs if they're not so sure (:
If you're still unclear of anything, feel free to ask your seniors!

Thanks and jiayou everyone for enrolment! <3

love,
Sec4s! (:
